About
3d retro graphics is an experimental collection of standalone HTML and JavaScript graphics demos. Each one is a single file that runs in a browser with WebGL 1 or a 2D canvas, and each one is yours to copy under CC0.
I made it out of an interest in retro computing and in 3D lighting.
I published them because I would rather share an experiment than leave finished work sitting on a hard drive. Some of them are rough. The historical references have been checked and the ones that only evoke a period look say so on their page, but a working demo that could be tidier still seemed better shared than shelved.
How it was built
The demos were largely AI-assisted and then reviewed, corrected, and tested by hand. Where a demo claims a specific original, such as the Utah teapot or Jos Stam's fluid solver, the page links the source it was built from.
The site around the demos uses a framework (React and TanStack Start on Cloudflare). The demos themselves do not: no bundler, no library, no external file. That is on purpose, so a demo stays portable and pastes into any page unchanged.
